INSIDE: natural habitat
Posted by saltaylorkydd on 3/21/2009

Speaking of British cool, oh how I wish modern homewares store Habitat in the UK would come stateside. Possibly now is not the time what with the ailing economies on both sides of the pond. However we are heading back to Blighty in May so perhaps I’ll get a chnace to poke my head in… If you’re not going to the UK anytime soon,  just check out the site for some inspiration!

INSIDE/OUTSIDE: gjelina’s great design
Posted by Sal Taylor Kydd on 3/17/2009

SAL: OK so this is a little inside baseball. But for those of you who live near LA or are planning to visit anytime soon, there are many reasons to recommend a trip to Gjelina’s restaurant on Abbot Kinney. Sure the food is great - tasty small plates and great thin crust pizzas - but for us design-junkies the decor is really worth checking out. Think French-bistro-come-industrial-chic. I was told that the design owes much to the talents of architects Marshall & Agriam, also based on Abbot Kinney just a stone’s throw away. I’ve yet to find out more but am set to email to try and find out where they get their wonderful (round) tables. Stay tuned.

Correction - Thank you to the folks over at Gejelina’s for getting back to me with this correction on the folks behind the design. Marshall & Agriam were not the designers of Gjelina, it was designed by Studio Peel and Modern Arc Inc (owned by Crystal Wynn and Milo Garcia) Mr Marshall and Mr Agriam were former employees of Studio Peel and a part of the design team.

INSIDE: sups up

Seriously love the decals. Here’s another option worth pondering for a small dining space. Thanks to Laura for this. Not sure it’s too formal - but round will work well for a small space and it’s pretty reasonable at $1499 from Crate & Barrel… One thing is for certain I’m not making any decisions today. Maybe it’s the moon, but I just almost burnt my onions for a second time. Inner Zen where are you??

INSIDE: dining in
Posted by saltaylorkydd on 3/02/2009

Thank you dear readers for bearing with me through the last few months. As some of you may know, my father passed away in December so blogging has taken a bit of a back seat. Now our lovely Harry (Cerentha) is back and I am inspired once more! I’ve also been doing some work on the house that I’ll be posting about too to get your feedback. I’m at the fun stage of choosing lighting, furnishings and so on - stay tuned.

One road block for me though is the dining room table. Ideally we’d like something round, but that is hard to find. I grabbed these Eames dining chairs that we have sitting around an old table right now - but the table is too small. I kind of think we need something heavier and more industrial to complement the chairs… here some ideas I’m mulling… The Cherner oval table is particularly gorgeous….

INSIDE: these chairs are a steal!
Posted by Sal Taylor Kydd on 11/26/2008

I’m so excited to now finally be embarking on my project of giving hearth and home a bit of an upgrade. Since we built/renovated the house almost 4 years ago (well it did go down to studs!)  there have been a bunch of small nits I’ve been dying to address. We moved in and Oliver was born about a week later so there wasn’t much time for remodeling! Now I’m delighted to be working with designer Laura Clayton Baker on modernising our little Venice cottage and bringing us into the twenty-first century. And don’t you know it, I’ll be blogging all the way.

It was Laura who put me on to these wonderful French outdoor chairs, currently on sale at Pottery Barn - for $4.99 a pop you can’t beat it. Well, what are you waiting for?!
